I had wanted a camera for a long time. I always thought having a designated machine to take pictures with was cool and I'd always have cheap phones with crappy cameras. So when christimas season roller around after I'd gotten a new job, I decided to gift myself a camera. And of course my first instinct was to look into digital cameras, the only type I knew existed. Then I was faced with the sad reality that good digital cameras are really expensive. I remember watching a "Top budget digital cameras" type video and it started at like 700 usd or something stupid. I unfortunately don't remember why but I somehow ended up looking at film cameras. Probably some of the "budget camera" videos that were for film cameras and I didn't realize. Whatever the case I didn't even know film existed. But the more I looked into it the more appealing it became. Plus I've always prefer the aesthetic of that anyway. The real selling point was that they were much much cheaper, specially since I could get a used one if I got lucky. Now of course one has to factor in the price of film, but given how little photos I take (if I'm actively going out shooting a roll can last me 1-2 months) it just made way more sense.
